Our most recent white paper is an investigation into the evidence for using GIS technology to improve services for utilities providers. In this paper we discuss the implementation of GIS technology at one of the UK’s largest residential gas and electricity providers, who employed RouteSmart for cycle day balancing and meter reading route optimisation and RaaS for daily meter reads & to support the roll out of Smart Meters.
For meter reading, RouteSmart is most applicable due to the high-density nature of the project – serving the customer base with multiple routes across the UK depot by depot.
RaaS has been best implemented in the planning of heritage meter reading following Smart Meter roll out, and safety inspections.
Route optimisation has become a key element improving efficiency, whether managing the services in-house or outsourcing the reading, installation and inspections of meters to contractors.
The document, entitled ‘Proven: Successful deployment of GIS technology for optimising meter reading operations delivers efficiency savings‘ was penned by our client services Director Andy Clewes, who has worked closely with our client for three years, keeping regular contact and providing immediate support where necessary. A large and ongoing project, we have been able to help this particular utilities provider manage the routing aspect of their service with a powerful tool.
